Heart Symbol: Copy and Paste Every Heart

All the heart symbols in one place — tap one to copy it — and how to type a heart on any keyboard.

A heart is the most used symbol in bios, names and messages. There are two very different kinds: text hearts, which are drawn by the font in the same colour as your text, and emoji hearts, which your phone draws as small coloured pictures. Text hearts keep a clean, minimal look and fit inside fancy names; emoji hearts add colour. This page lists both, with their Unicode codes and the keyboard shortcuts that still work.

Tap any heart in the table to copy it. These are single characters, so each one counts as one character in a bio limit.

The ♥ black heart suit and ♡ white heart suit come from playing cards and exist in practically every font, which makes them the safest choice. ❤ heavy black heart is special: depending on the app it appears either as a black text heart or as the red emoji, because phones treat it as both.

Emoji hearts in every colour

Emoji hearts are always shown in colour and look slightly different on iPhone, Android, Windows and in apps like WhatsApp that use their own emoji set. The newest ones — 🩷 pink, 🩵 light blue and 🩶 grey — arrived with Emoji 15 in 2022, so phones that have not been updated for a few years show an empty box instead.

Cute heart combinations

Hearts look best when they are combined with small symbols and a bit of spacing. These combos are popular in bios, names and captions:

StyleCombo
Butterfly heart
Sparkle heart
Hug heart
Heart line
Soft frame
Hearts between letters
Heart bracket
Bow heart

You can put hearts between the letters of any word on the cute fonts page, or collect several symbols in a row on the text symbols page.

How to type a heart symbol on a keyboard

Windows

 • Alt + 3 on the number pad types ♥ in many Windows programs (Num Lock on). It is an old code-page shortcut and does not work in every app.
 • Win + . (period) opens the emoji and symbol panel. Search “heart” for emoji hearts, or open the Symbols tab for ♥ and ♡.
 • In Microsoft Word, type 2665 and press Alt + X to turn the code into ♥ (2661 for ♡, 2764 for ❤).

Mac

 • Control + Command + Space opens the Character Viewer. Type “heart” in its search box.
 • For a quick ♥ add a text replacement in System Settings → Keyboard → Text Replacements, for example “<3” → ♥.

iPhone and Android

 • Open the emoji keyboard and search “heart”. On Android, Gboard also shows ♥ and ♡ on its symbol pages.
 • For text hearts like ❥ ღ ❦ that the keyboard does not offer, copy them from this page and save them as a text replacement shortcut.

HTML and code

 • HTML: ♥ or ♥ for ♥, ♡ for ♡, ❤ for ❤.
 • CSS content: "\2665".
 • JavaScript: "\u2665".

Text heart vs. emoji heart: which one to use?

Use a text heart (♥ ♡) inside fancy names and decorated bios, where a coloured picture would break the look, and when you want the heart to take the same colour as the text in dark mode. Use an emoji heart when the colour carries the meaning — a blue heart for a team, a black heart for a mood — and in casual chats.

If ❤ shows as a black text heart where you wanted red, it is missing the invisible variation selector U+FE0F that tells the phone to draw the emoji version. Copying the red heart from the emoji table above already includes it.

What the heart colours usually mean

 • ❤️ red — love and romance; also the default “like”.
 • 🩷 pink and 💕 two hearts — sweet, cute, friendly affection.
 • 💛 yellow and 🧡 orange — friendship and happiness.
 • 💙 blue and 💚 green — support and loyalty, often sports teams.
 • 💜 purple — compassion, and a favourite of K-pop fan communities.
 • 🖤 black — dark humour, sadness, or a goth aesthetic.
 • 🤍 white — calm and clean, popular in minimalist bios.
 • 💔 broken — heartbreak or disappointment.

Meanings shift between communities and countries, so read the room — but none of them is rude.

Heart symbols in Instagram, TikTok, WhatsApp and Discord

Every app shows text hearts with its own font, so ♥ can look slightly rounder on an iPhone than on Android, but it is always the same character. Emoji hearts are a different story: WhatsApp, Facebook, X and Discord draw their own emoji sets, so a 💜 copied from one app is the same character but looks a little different in the next. A few practical notes:

 • Instagram and TikTok show text hearts in the bio, the name field and captions. In the bio a heart is a nice way to separate lines without using an emoji.
 • WhatsApp turns ❤ into the red emoji in most cases; use ♥ or ♡ if you want a small black heart.
 • Discord accepts hearts in display names, nicknames and channel names, so ♡ and ❥ are popular in server names.
 • Games often allow ♥ and ♡ in names but block emoji. If an emoji heart is refused, try a text heart.

Hearts in names and gamer tags

A heart on each side of a name is one of the most common decorations: ♡ Mia ♡, ❥ Leo, ღ Sara ღ. It works well with fancy fonts, for example ♡ 𝓜𝓲𝓪 ♡ or ʟᴇᴏ ❥. Keep the name itself readable and use one or two hearts — a row of ten symbols makes a name hard to tag or search.

In Korea and Japan, heart symbols are a classic part of nicknames: Korean users call them 하트 특수문자 (“heart special characters”), and Japanese users type ハート to find ♡ in their keyboard suggestions. The 🫶 heart-hands emoji, added in 2022, comes from the finger-heart gestures made popular by K-pop.

Where the heart symbol comes from

The heart shape as a symbol of love goes back to medieval Europe, and the heart became a playing-card suit in France in the late 15th century — the same suit that gives us ♥ and ♡ today. Computers first got the heart as part of the card suits in early character sets, which is why the old Windows shortcut Alt + 3 still types it. Unicode now contains dozens of hearts, from the card suits to coloured emoji added almost every year.

Hearts and accessibility

Screen readers read each symbol by its name — ♥ is read as “black heart suit”, and a row of five hearts is read five times. If people who use screen readers follow you, keep decorations short and do not put important words between symbols.

Heart symbols for special days

Hearts are everywhere on Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day and anniversaries, but a plain red emoji can feel a little generic. Mixing a text heart with a styled word makes a message look made by hand: 𝓗𝓪𝓹𝓹𝔂 𝓥𝓪𝓵𝓮𝓷𝓽𝓲𝓷𝓮’𝓼 ♡, ❥ 𝓁ℴ𝓋ℯ 𝓎ℴ𝓊 𝓂ℴ𝓂, or ʜᴀᴘᴘʏ ᴀɴɴɪᴠᴇʀꜱᴀʀʏ ღ. For a card or a caption, put one heart at the end of the line rather than after every word — it reads warmer and calmer.

Make a line of hearts for a divider

A row of small hearts makes a soft divider between parts of a bio, a caption or a long message. Mix full and outline hearts for rhythm — ♡ ♥ ♡ ♥ ♡ — or put tiny symbols between them: ♡ ⋆ ♡ ⋆ ♡. Keep dividers to one line, use spaces so each heart has room, and test the line on a phone screen, where long rows may wrap in the middle.
